How Often Should You Change Your Oil?

Blue Mercedes-Benz C-Class

A Mercedes-Benz vehicle is a precision machine, and like every automobile, regular oil replacement is required to keep your model functioning as it should. How often should you change your oil if you drive a Mercedes-Benz? Service A* and Service B* appointments both include an oil replacement and an oil filter replacement**, and you can count on your ASSYST Plus service system to tell you when it’s time to schedule service.  In general, you’ll schedule Mercedes-Benz Service A or Service B once every 10,000 miles, or roughly once per year; this is your Mercedes-Benz oil service interval.

Oil Change Frequency Guidelines

The 3,000-mile recommendation may have been applicable years ago, but today’s vehicles have been manufactured to run cleaner and more efficiently than ever before. Using synthetic oil in your vehicle allows for longer and longer gaps between oil replacement appointments, and leaves you with more money in your pocket. As a result you really only need to schedule Mercedes-Benz oil service once per year.

How often do you change the oil in the Mercedes-Benz you actually drive? Here’s what you should keep in mind:

  • All Mercedes-Benz vehicles manufactured after 2010 require their drivers to use synthetic oil. So, if you drive a recently-manufactured model, you can stick to your regularly scheduled Service A and Service B appointments with confidence.
  • However, if you drive an older Mercedes-Benz vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz oil change interval of 5,000 to 7,500 miles is likely more appropriate***.

Mercedes-Benz Oil Replacement: Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should I change my oil if I only drive my Mercedes-Benz occasionally?
    • Since oil breaks down when it isn’t being used, you’ll want to schedule Mercedes-Benz oil replacement at least once a year, or twice if you use your vehicle for towing or high-performance track driving when you take it out.
  • How often should I change my oil if I like to take my vehicle off-road, or engage in sport driving near Mayfield or Cleveland?
    • Since pushing the limits of your vehicle’s capabilities can generate significant wear and tear, it’s appropriate to adjust your Mercedes-Benz oil service interval and bring your model in for service more often.
  • Can I perform Mercedes-Benz oil replacement at home?
    • Since you’ll usually have your oil changed as part of Service A or Service B, you’ll only need to change your oil at home if you’re doing so more often than most drivers. Pick up everything you need at our Mercedes-Benz parts department.
