The 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is small, efficient, agile, and accessible. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers many engine options and body styles, and as the larger of the two models, it offers more space and more features. Both are compelling options, but what is the best Mercedes-Benz ‘class’ for your needs? We’ve laid out everything you need to know in our Mercedes-Benz A-Class vs. C-Class comparison.

A-Class vs. C-Class: Pricing & Body Styles

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan is more accessible than the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan, no matter how you break down the details:

2021 A-Class Sedan Pricing

  • A 220 Sedan – $33,650* MSRP
  • A 220 4MATIC®® Sedan – $35,650* MSRP
  • AMG® A 35 4MATIC®® Sedan – $45,850* MSRP

2021 C-Class Sedan Pricing

  • C 300 Sedan – $41,600* MSRP
  • C 300 4MATIC®® Sedan – $43,600* MSRP
  • AMG® C 43 Sedan – $56,500* MSRP
  • AMG® C 63 Sedan – $68,600* MSRP
  • AMG® C 63 S Sedan – $76,200* MSRP

Choosing the A-Class will leave more room in your current financial plan, but choosing the C-Class will allow you to access higher-level trims and more potent powertrains, as seen below. It’s also important to point out that, unlike the A-Class, the C-Class is also offered as a Coupe (starting at $47,200* MSRP) and a Cabriolet (starting at $54,700* MSRP).

A-Class vs. C-Class: Features

Now that you’ve seen how they measure up in terms of price, we’re sure you’ll be eager to dive into the finer points of this year’s Mercedes-Benz A-Class vs. Mercedes-Benz C-Class model comparison. Right off the bat, you should know that both models come standard with:

  • Apple CarPlay™
  • Android Auto™
  • Remote start with the Mercedes me app
  • MB-Tex® upholstery

However, there are important differences between the feature suites of these two models:

  • Displays: The A-Class features MBUX, along with a 7-inch central touchscreen and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The C-Class does not currently offer MBUX, but it does come standard with a 10.25 inches central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
  • Additional Features: Beachwood and Mayfield drivers will appreciate that the A-Class offers standard ambient lighting. However, practically minded buyers may prefer the standard suite in the C-Class, which includes heated front seats and a trunk with HANDS FREE ACCESS®.

The C-Class offers more rear legroom and trunk space than the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, so this comparison may be an easy one for drivers who spend a lot of time travelling with gear or passengers. If you’re looking for even more space, compare the C-Class to the E-Class

A-Class vs. C-Class: Performance

The A-Class only gives you two engines to choose from. The C-Class offers more power as standard, and allows you to upgrade with one of three available powertrains:

A-Class Engines

  • 2.0L Turbocharged i4 Engine with 188 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque
  • AMG®-Enhanced 2.0L Turbocharged i4 Engine with 302 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque

C-Class Engines

  • 2.0L Turbocharged i4 Engine with 255 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque
  • AMG®-Enhanced 3.0L V6 biturbo® Engine with 385 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque
  • Handcrafted AMG® 4.0L V8 biturbo® Engine with 469 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque
  • Handcrafted AMG® 4.0L V8 biturbo® Engine with 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque

The C-Class gets up to 23 mpg city and 35 mpg highway**, which makes it perfectly suitable as a daily driver. However, those who want to maximize their fuel economy may prefer the A-Class, since it offers up to 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway**.
