  • Determine Your Key Type — Cleveland Mercedes-Benz drivers may have either a Chrome Key or a Smart Key. You’ll follow slightly different steps when it comes to changing the battery on either type.
  • Buy the Right Batteries — For a Smart Key, you need two CR 2025 batteries. The newer Chrome Key only needs one CR 2025.

Depending on whether you have a Smart Key or a Chrome Key, follow these steps to change the battery: Smart Key

  1. Pull the latch at the end of the key holder.
  2. Insert your key horizontally into the open slot.
  3. Lift out the battery compartment and replace the batteries.

Chrome Key

  1. Pull on the tab at the bottom.
  2. Push your key into the narrow end of the slot to remove the cover.
  3. Replace the battery.
